What are common date rape drugs?

On Behalf of | Aug 3, 2022 | Sex Crimes |

If you face rape accusations, you may encounter further accusations that you used a drug to perpetrate the crime.

According to the Susan B. Anthony  Project, alcohol and drugs often play a role in these situations. Knowing about any substances involved can help you when devising your defense strategy.

Common drugs

The most often used drugs in rape situations are Rohypnol, GHB and ketamine. Rohypnol is also known as roofies. GHB or gamma-hydroxybutyric acid may go by the name gook or cherry meth, and some people refer to ketamine as special K. All of these drugs can cause a person to black out, become weak and confused or lead to memory loss. People often put them in drinks, so they are undetectable.

Note the signs

As you look back on the situation, you may recall your accuser acting oddly. Consider if she or he was likely under the influence of one of these drugs. It is also possible that you could be a victim of drugging. Think about your behavior and how you felt that evening.  You should note the behavior and anything else you may remember that might connect with these substances.

You also should begin being more careful when attending parties or other events. Make sure you trust your intuition about anyone who seems questionable. Make sure you never drink anything left unattended or take drinks from someone you do not trust.

Drugs may have played a role in your situation, and being able to pinpoint that might help you as you plan to defend against the accusations.
