A domestic dispute turns deadly in St. Louis' Patch neighborhood

Officers with the St. Louis Police Department were dispatched to a home located along 7400 Pennsylvania Avenue early in the afternoon on April 23. When they arrived there, they found that a 23-year-old man had been shot. Soon after paramedics had whisked the victim away, police took their alleged suspect into custody at a nearby home.

The shooting in question occurred outside of a home in the Patch neighborhood just before 1:00 p.m. this past Tuesday. When police arrived at the scene of the incident, they found an unconscious young man who appeared to have been shot in the stomach. He was still breathing at the time paramedics arrived on the scene.

An investigation into the incident revealed that the shooting started as a domestic dispute. A spokesperson for the police department stopped short of disclosing what type of relationship may have existed between the alleged shooter and the victim. They did note that all family members had cooperated with their investigation.

While investigating the incident, officers were forced to summons additional paramedics to the crime scene. An elderly woman had apparently struggled to catch her breath as homicide detectives began questioning her.

The investigation into what led up to the shooting is now in the hands of the St. Louis Police Department's homicide detectives. When asked why it was turned over to them, a law enforcement spokesperson noted that it was due to the seriousness of the injuries that the victim had suffered.

It's unclear what crime the suspect was booked in jail for. No further details have been provided about the victim's condition.

Crime has steadily been increasing in the Patch neighborhood of St. Louis in recent months. Rates have gone up by more than 6.4 percent since last year.

If you've been charged with a crime, then it's important for you and others to remember that you're presumed innocent until proven guilty. If someone you know has been charged with a serious criminal offense, then you'll want a violent crimes attorney representing your loved one's interests in a Missouri court of law.
