A man who used to be a police officer in Missouri recently went to court for his role in an armed bank robbery and a car chase that led other officers at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. He pled guilty to those crimes.
The man, who is now 35 years old, spent around a decade working as a police officer in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He is from Independence. His time as an officer ended in 2016.
The charges against him were for brandishing a gun while committing a violent crime and for robbing a bank with a firearm.
Per reports, the man robbed the Central Bank of the Midwest, which is located in the same city where he was on the force, on August 28 of 2018. He had a .40-caliber pistol. He forced the tellers to give him cash while making everyone else lie on the floor. He only ended up with around $7,000.
Not long after he ran from the scene, police saw him in a vehicle and tried to pull him over. He sped off, fleeing from the police on the busy midday streets and at times went faster than 100 mph. Eventually, police were able to get him to stop the car. When they went up to the vehicle, they recognized him right away since he had been on the force in that same town just two years before.
Cases like this carry serious ramifications. Those who are accused of violent crimes and weapons crimes need to make sure they know all of their rights, and they all deserve a fair trial.
