Identity theft isn't a victimless crime, so defense is crucial

When police officers investigate cases, they often place a special emphasis on the effects that crimes have on the victims. Some crimes, such as identity theft, are often thought of as victimless crimes because the victims aren't actually physically assaulted. That isn't the case because identity theft crimes do harm the people who have their identity stolen.

When you think about the severity of the penalties that are associated with sex-related crimes, you can understand why it is so troubling to find out that you are facing those charges. The anger and disbelief that is felt by some defendants might be due in part to the fact that a friend or family member is the person behind the accusations.

Why might a writ be used?

A writ is a document that is sometimes used when an appeal is no longer possible, such as when an appeal has already been made to the higher court. The case can't be appealed to the same higher court multiple times, but writs can be used numerous times, giving defendants some legal options without having to appeal to the next ruling body. A few reasons that a writ may be used include the following:

Governor shoots down concealed carry bill

Weapons offenses are very serious offenses that can lead to significant time in prison. People in Missouri who were hoping that carrying a concealed weapon would be a little easier now have had their hopes dashed. Governor Nixon opted to veto a bill that would have allowed people to carry a concealed weapon without having to obtain a permit.
